Prayers for Peace by Judy Brutz
Lord, the world's turmoil and violence with the great threats of escalation are overwhelming. How may the Civil Rights Movement bring us light and hope? Night is here, only you may fill our hearts with peace and love. Only you may heal and comfort. And only your Spirit can inspire reconciliation, nonviolence and universal community building. Don't abandon us. Stay close; hold us in your love. Amen
Our hearts cry out, let there be peace. Dear Lord, save us from war. Night is here, we can only turn to you. Hold us in your love. Fill us with your peace. Call forth the nations to peace, reconciliation and global community, we ask. We bless you and thank you for the gift of life. Amen
All the earth cries out, Beloved One, may your peace and reconciliation quiet the madness of this world. Night is with us, enfold us in your love, and forgive our crimes against your creation. Fill us with your peace and gentleness, hope and joy. Thank you for your blessings and in not giving up on us. Amen
Beloved Reconciler, you call us to love our enemies and to forgive. Night has fallen, please hold us close, strengthen us with your love that we may walk in love and peace regardless of what faces us. Radiate your love to the whole world. Move the leaders to lay down their warfare. We ask in your name. Amen
The Sabbath draws to a close, Holy One. Thank you for the blessings of worship, fellowship and your bountiful creation. We are renewed in hope and strengthened in following you. Night surrounds us, comfort, heal and hold us in your love. Still the warcries and bring enemies to making peace. Amen
Blessed God, we turn to you in prayer. Please be with the Egyptian people, touch their hearts - clerics, priests, politicians, all factions, men, women and children. May all live in peace, your peace. How can reconciliation be brought about? Desmond Tutu showed us what a difference it made in South Africa. We must ask what part our country is playing in the continued conflicts? How is each one of us part of the conflict, if we are?
We Make Bold to Pray
Blessed One, may you be honored.
May your Peace and Reconciliation be with us in this world.
Feed us with spiritual food and forgive (my/our) _________
As (I/we) forgive ____________
Stay with us during the terror, bloodiness and killing
and shield us from all evil.
Yours is the commonwealth,
the power to create life,
and the glory goes to you now and forever. Amen
Come, all you who have wandered
far from the path,
who have separated yourselves
A banquet is prepared for you in the
heart's Secret Room.
There you will find the way home;
a welcome ever awaits you!
Even as you acknowledge the times
you have erred,
the forgiveness of the Beloved
will envelop you.
Call upon the Beloved when fear
when you feel overwhelmed;
The Eternal Listener will heed
you will find strength to face
Befriend all that is within you,
discover the Secret Room in
Then will abundant blessings enter
your home; and,
you will welcome the Divine Guest
who is ever with you.

In apartheid South Africa, Archbishop Desmond Tutu brought about reconciliation by having people face each other and tell their personal stories. Apartheid was overcome and Nelson Mandela became the President of South Africa.
Desmond Tutu likens equal rights for gays to the fight for equal rights for blacks.
"I am passionate about this campaign as I ever was about apartheid. For me, it is at the same level."
Are we able to work through our own racism and homophobia in the United States?
A Prayer for Reconciliation
Beloved God, hold us in your love. In the shadows of our own racism and homophobia, bring healing and comfort. Guide us with your wisdom through the process of reaching reconciliation and peace with one another. We pray, Amen
George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin. What laws in our justice system prevent righteousness and justice? George not guilty but not innocent. Trayvon unarmed and dead. My heart goes out to all. Please Loving God, comfort, heal and reach the hearts of all those concerned. Guide us with your wisdom and convert our hearts. Help us to undo the Stand Alone Laws.
Beloved One, hold me close this night,
Comfort, heal, and fill me with your peace.
Weave your love into a blanket
that I may wrap myself in.
Forgive my trespasses as I also forgive.
When morning dawns,
guide me and protect me from all harm.
Your kingdom is the welcoming community you create for all people.
Your power strengthens me to live according to your will.
All glory belongs to you.
Thank you for loving and giving me hope for a new day.
