Where is peace? More than any previous time on earth, we are in and surrounded by multi crises which are threatening our very existence. Turning inward to listen to God's message, I sit silently, quieting my mind, and turn to the scriptures to speak to me. And then I journal.
Psalm 34:14 Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.
Journaling: I open my journal and write the scripture, then I start writing free flow, not paying attention to spelling, grammar or sentence structure.
I write in prayer form. My words might be something like this-
Lord, I do not think of myself as doing evil. How am I to understand this scripture? Am I somehow responsible for evil being done? How am I to seek peace and pursue it? Open my eyes and my heart to your peace.
What you write is likely to be different. What is your prayer? Please share with me.
Matthew 11:28-30 Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your soul. For my yoke is easy and my burden light.
Journaling: My prayer writing - Jesus, I am weary and I need rest. Let me feel your gentle love and peace in my heart. My life and the world is so troubled. Take my hand and lead me in your ways. Fill me with your peace.
What is your prayer? Please share with me.
Blessings my friends, Judy
Crying out means to involve your mind, body, soul, your very being. Find your voice through the use of scripture.
Crying out for the Presence of God in your life. What is the deepest need you have? Do you need healing and transformation in your life? Are you imprisoned? Are you experiencing trauma or post trauma? Yearning for the Presence of the Lord is spoken about in the Bible.
Are you troubled by your past?
The Lord's Prayer. Pray the words Jesus gave us and allow the Holy Spirit to inspire youth new words and phrases for the traditional ones. You will be surprised what you learn, how you are helped. Write the words in your journal. You will be led to many places in the Bible and to many names for God.
How are the suggestions helpful to you? What have you discovered? Please share with me your thoughts, prayers in the comment section. Blessings, Judy

Hurricanes, earthquakes, flooding, title waves -
Loving God, Please hear our cries. Safeguard our family and friends. Send help. We hold onto you, Our Refuge, Our Rock. Peace, peace
In Jesus' name we pray.
"Those who grieve the reality of their condition, and the hurt and injustices they have either caused or enabled; who have become more sensitive to what is violent in life; and who grieve for the injustices in the world. These are the ones who mourn."
Judy Brutz, 'Who are The Beatitude People,' p.23 in Come Away and Pray, God is Light, 2017
Beloved One, comfort us in our grief. Peace, peace
Who are poor in spirit? Those who understand and acknowledge their inner condition; who know in what ways they are violent. These are ones who are poor in spirit.
Beloved One, You reveal to us our inner condition and the ways we are not of love, the ways in which we could be hurtful, even violent. Forgive us we ask. Peace, peace
Walking the Beatitudes takes guts, it takes Love, it takes Jesus. In the face of hate, hate with weapons to kill, rage that screams, we turn to Jesus. What would Jesus do, we ask?
In Charlottesville, the clergy stared down the white supremacists.
"It really felt like every step you take could be your last. With each step, I just kept holding on to the call to love," reported Rev. Lisa Sharon Harper.
"It felt like Selma after Bloody Sunday," Rev. Seth Wispelwey commented.
Weeks prior to the Charlottesville supremacists' rage-full demonstrations, faith groups had been providing training in nonviolence. If we walk the Beatitudes with Jesus, we must be nonviolent.
On Friday night when the people of faith were at a prayer service, a group of torch-bearing white supremacists unexpectedly stormed onto the campus of the University of Virginia campus directly across the street from the church, shouting hate-filled slogans. They also faced the the church and maced one woman when she attempted to leave.
The clergy immediately closed the church doors, instructing the people to stay inside and continued in their leadership of prayer and hymn singing.
As followers of Jesus, what does Love call us to do and be?
